A new Adventure…
Hi there
Thanks for popping in.
Early Saturday morning here. The roads are quiet, the birds are even quiet for once. Just that irritating neighbour of ours, who must be digging a new channel tunnel from 50 miles inland. Just dig, dig digging, chip, chip, chipping away…ah well…live and let live.
If he’s digging for France, I’m embarking on a new adventure too! Slightly less arduous, and probably a lot more constructive! In case you haven’t heard, we are working on a new approach (new for us!), where I teach and share, and you can join in from anywhere in the world.
I’ve come up with a cool technique for creating collage landscapes. I posted a picture of one on Facebook, and it was met with great enthusiasm, and a wish to know how to make it. So I had a think, and decided to include it in the Clarity retreats next week…(there are still a couple of places left on the Thursday / Friday course if you want to have a break with us! CLICK HERE
I call it The Cottages.
But then a lot of folks said, “we can’t get there, I can’t make it, I don’t travel, we live too far away, I live in the States, I live in Canada, I live in France” Understood. I get it. Of course I do. So I had another think, and made a BIG decision. To run online classes. Paid for, all singing, all dancing online workshops. So we had a meeting at work, did some research, and found a fab platform to work from, a Hub. Where the guest – that’s you – can go to find everything: the info, the LIVE session, the pre-recorded session. Where you can hook up with fellow participants etc. A proper little learning hub, a Clarity Classroom. So you can join in, from ANYWHERE in the world. You buy the course, we send you the material, you log in, and we can learn together.
There’s nothing new here. Lots of people do it! Just not me. I’ve never charged a fee online. It is new ground for me, because I have always done ALL our online demos, the SHAC, Groovi Tuesday, YouTubes for FREE. And that will not change. This new Classroom branch of Clarity won’t affect the SHAC! I recognise now though, that there is a desire for more involved, interactive tutorials. And I’m getting on. No. Not on the bandwagon! On in years!! I recognise that at 65, I can’t do what I did when I was 35, or 45 – or even 60 for that matter. None of us are getting any younger. So if I’m to keep going for a while yet, this is a great solution.
Ready? Here’s the pitch:
Would you like to learn how to create a lovely paper collage landscape? And complete it in real time with me? And no! Not the same one as in the Ditton Retreat! No, no, we’ll try a different one! This one is called “The Lighthouse”. It’s a little more involved than The Cottages. Different layout, more papers.
I will be hosting my very first paid online lesson on Saturday 12th October. We will start at 1.30pm British time. Be sure to check the correct time where you are. I’m told the new and clever platform we’re using will automatically calculate that for you, but it won’t get you out of bed, and make you a coffee! It DOES mean we can all be together for a LIVE session. That said, there will also be a pre-recorded, full-length tutorial too, complete with subtitles – just in case you need them, or you want to re-watch without all the chat and banter! I reckon it will take about 4 hours to complete, but it will take as long as it takes.
How much does it cost? £65, less club discount. And yes to loyalty points x
What’s included in this fee?
- As soon as you pay to join, we will send you the paper materials, the canvas board and the design template. I saw the packs being completed this week. They are really lovely! A list of what else you need is also included. The sooner you join, the sooner we will send your package.
- An extensive LIVE lesson with myself, webinar-style, right through to project completion.
- Access to a pre-recorded session of the complete project (just in case you want to re-watch, or you couldn’t make the LIVE session). Available for 2 months.
Maximum 100 places available. Once the places are filled, then the course is full. The paid class is exclusive to this group of 100 people. Why? The platform tariff we have signed up for has a limit of 100 participants.
We launched this course in the SHAC on Thursday – and I am delighted to tell you that 57 people have already signed up! I am so chuffed!! AND in the States! AND in Europe! I love the idea that people from all over the world can come together. Thank you.
If you would like to join us, CLICK HERE to investigate. Go to our website, and type in Lighthouse xx
The point is this: If I recognise NOW, that I/we have to change the way I/we do things, in order to be able to continue for years to come, to keep the good ship Clarity going, then we have to implement those changes NOW.
I’ve been teaching all my adult life. It’s what I do. So I feel this is a great way forward. I do hope you will join me on this new adventure!
Love always,
Barb x x x

Looking forward to doing this (and all the other lovely projects) with you next week !
Really looking forward to this Barbara ! it’s well out of my comfort zone, the 3 year olds in the nursery I work in are better at collage than I am !!
You’ll have to ask them for tips ! X
Good morning, bit stressful here but it will sort itself. I’m all signed up. You have to do what you have to do to make things easier for yourself, I’m finding I’m changing things slightly, I.e. more careful in the garden etc.
As 12 Oct is day before my 65th I know I’m going to get interrupted but at least there is catch up and the ‘room’ to talk to everyone else! I might put a do not disturb notice on the front door ! So looking forward to something different, not that I’ve tried my Felt by Clarity yet or stitching on parchment – too much time thinking and not doing ! Hubby doesn’t know yet but your class is my birthday present 😹
Have a good weekend. X
So looking forward to starting this course in October, I think it’s a brilliant idea especially if it means we get to keep you in our lives for as long as possible!
Very good idea. However, if you work and Saturday is your day out for the week you will miss it. Are you saying that you can pay the fee, get the stuff and still watch it after?? Not sure. Sue. PS I think you and the team are very talented. You teach me more skills and empty my bank 🤣 x
That’s exactly how it works Sue. Even if you can’t make the LIVE session, there will be a pre-recorded version for you, complete with subtitles, should anyone need it. And the LIVE session will also be available for you – if you fancy a longer version with all the banter ! xxx
Looking forward to the class, signed up as soon as I got the email just in case it was a sell out & I am sure it will be by the time October comes round. By switching to online classes we can carry on crafting & learning new things without leaving our homes. Its good to keep trying new things as well – keeps the brain working even if other parts of the body are not so keen !!
Have a great week at the Retreats & then enjoy your break & Mark’s wedding x
So glad you’re joining in, Sue! I think you will love it! x x x
Thank you Barb. I’m really looking forward to it. X
Me too! x x x
I ALWAYS read your blog…but don’t often comment. But after what you said in the shac on Thursday, I will make more of an effort to ! I’ve signed up for the online class and I’m really excited about it. If I can reproduce that beautiful artwork, I shall be a happy girl! Thanks Barb x
It’s easy! Once you know how xxx
So looking forward to it…as long as I can get on with the IT stuff!
It seems like a great way forward for you, Barbara. Mx
We’re here to help. We’ll have a helpline open on the day x
We’ll be on hand to help, so never worry xxx
Love reading your blog Barbara and am sure that like many others don’t often leave a reply will endeavour to be better.I would love to participate in the live classes but like Margaret am not very good at the tech stuff and only manage to get online via my Kindle. Would I be able to participate?
Signed and paid up, looking forward to the adventure, although I’m helping with the village harvest breakfast on 12th October, so will have to watch the link at a later day, as if the village breakfast is the same as it was in March , it will be all through the morning and into the afternoon, by the time we’ve finished the food and clearing up. Still, its for a good cause. I usually read your blogs, and do try to leave a comment, unless it’s very late and bed is calling and my mind is elsewhere. I shall try to do better! Have a lovely weekend everyone. xx
Looking forward to doing this in the retreat next week. I’ll see how I get on before I sign up for October and hope it’s not full by the end of next week. See you on Thursday. Xx
Just what the doctor ordered. Good Luck.
Love
Maggie (York UK)
Haven’t noticed any updates on the cats lately, how are they?
Hi Maggie! Ragnar and Erik are just beautiful. Proper little characters. We love them!!
Looks really good, hope you have a good time. Only I can’t make this date, already booked to see a few old school mates I haven’t seen for years, including on who is coming all the way from Oz, so sorry but that has to take precedence.
I’m signed up really looking forward to it, living in the north of England means I find it difficult to get down to the retreats and open days too many other commitments on my time so this for me is ideal
Glad to hear it. x x x
Looking forward to this workshop and others in the future. Thanks Barb and team for your vision and innovation.
Barbara I have been following you for a few years now, but never had the time to join in because of too many commitments to other people but now I thought it’s time for me!! So I have signed up be it with some trepidation and not sure what to expect. Hope I can do your product’s justice!!
Well, Suz! Finally! I do hope you really enjoy it!! x x x
Hi Barb, I wish you every bit of good luck with this new endeavour, I am sure it is going to be very popular. Maybe at some future point I can join a session, looking at what you have planned, I would love to. Bx
Very excited and looking forward to having a go at this new venture from your good self, Barbara. As always you come up with great ideas at the right time! The right time for you, the right time for us, and the right time for Clarity. So I’ll be at the Retreat next week and I’ve signed up for the new online workshop as well – can’t wait to see what comes next! 😊
Thanks Ken!! See you next week – for part 1 xxx
Hi Barbara, I’ve signed up for your online tutorial and I’m really looking forward to it!
Thank you for generously sharing your talent and knowledge in the various ways that you do.
Thank you also for the fabulous free guidance and lovely chat from the SHAC. I’ve recently discovered the current episodes and consequently I’m trying to catch up on the back episodes too. (I’m only up to episode 7 so I’ve got a long way to go and a lot to learn!)
Your enthusiasm, talent and fabulous products have inspired me to try stamping again after a 20+ year gap. I was never very good, (rubbish actually, 😂) but now with all your free online instruction and inspiration from other crafters I’ve decided to have another go. The ‘problem’ is I’ve now also discovered Groovi and stencilling so there are even more skills that I need to learn! It’s fun though!
Thank you and Team Clarity for giving artistic hope to someone (me) who always aspired to be creative but never felt able to achieve it ….. until now!
Have a great weekend and enjoy your well deserved break from the SHAC, (although I know you’re still busy doing everything else!)
Jane x 🌸🌼🌺
Great news that you are diving in! I’m sure you’ll find it very achievable and enjoyable. I certainly do x x x
Fantastic news! I’ve got a bit of a problem with my vision at the moment, so waiting for an appointment with opthalmology to hopefully get it sorted. Might need to wait for the next one x
Hi Barbara, the Lighthouse collage looks great and I can’t wait to try it. I booked my place as soon as I got the email from the lovely Sue. When I saw the first collage in the trio, I was desperate to go to the Retreat next week but I just couldn’t manage that time away from my caring duties and visiting family the week before and the week after so I was delighted when you announced the paid tutorial for the second collage. I can’t wait for the pack to arrive!
I hope you have a wonderful time in the US and that Mark’s wedding is lovely. (I’m sure it will be!) I know what it’s like having your kids abroad, my elder daughter lives in Australia. She’s married to a lovely Australian guy and is a citizen of Australia so I know she won’t be coming back to live in the UK. They have a lovely life out there but I wish it wasn’t so far away.
Lots of love, Sue xxx
So glad you’re joining in Sue ! x x x
Really like this idea going forward. As you say there are hundreds of people who just can’t make the retreats for various reasons but would love to attend & this is one way for to be able to be part of something different. I bet it won’t be long before you have to upgrade your platform to accommodate more people though xxx
Well, Bev …. we shall see. Here’s hoping. x x x
I always enjoy your blog, but don’t often comment. I am not very good with IT but keep trying…… Already booked my place for the new online course, so excited. Yet another great idea Barbara. Well done to you and the Clarity team.
Lorraine

Hi Barbara
I am so pleased that you are doing online lessons, I have signed up and truly looking forward to it. 😊 I love the SHAC and Groovi Tuesday, I often have to watch on catch-up but I always do.
I thank you for your company and inspiration. OXOX
I am so excited! I have watched (multiple times!) your Youtube Tuesdays, all the SHAC, your tv days – everything you do! I’m so glad you will be returning to your “old Blog ways” and hope you never stop sharing with us! One of these years I will get to the Open Days but for now I’m chuffed (love this British term!) to be able to join you from San Diego on Oct. 12 for the Lighthouse project!
Thank you for all you and the Clarity family give us!! Stay well and craft on!
Hiya!! San Diego?! Well that’s music to my ears! I LOVE San Diego !! Great city! Glad (chuffed🥰) to be connected through you xx
I think the online classes are a great idea Barbara and I wish you every success – the pictures are lovely!
We are off to Exeter tomorrow to celebrate our son and his fiancée getting engaged! They went to Paris to watch the ladies’ rugby 7’s matches. While in Paris, they visited the Eiffel Tower and he proposed……I am so happy for them both!
Take care and remember to stop and smell the roses…… 🌹 xxx
Congratulations to the happy couple! Lovely news xx we do love love stories, don’t we ❤️❤️❤️
So many lovely positive comments about the online venture – what a brilliant idea! I’ve always loved the Shac Shack but to have a bit if you live without travel and affordable for many – just FAB. I’m sure it will be a success!
I’m looking forward to the retreat – last minute decision to go (1st 2 days) desperately needing a couple of days away from my hectic life. Can’t wait to learn how to collage the BARBARA GRAY WAY! ! I dabble but muddle through.
Take care Barbara and looking forward to meeting Clarity friends next week. 🥰
Looking forward to spending some quality crafting time with you Sonia xxx
All signed up and can’t wait. Thank you for yet another great idea.
I did a few online sessions with Tina Cox which were really enjoyable and relaxing because I hadn’t had to travel anywhere or pack a case etc. plus I learned a lot.
You are a brilliant teacher so I know I will get a lot out of this session and will really enjoy this pioneering journey with you and my fellow class mates.
I’m now 72 and also know my limitations and how to adapt to still get things done.
I appreciate how much work goes into getting this new venture off the ground but feel sure you are excited and happy at the prospect.
Enjoy Mark’s wedding in the US and the one back here in Blighty.
And a big thank you for keeping Clarity and all who sail in her afloat.
Thanks for your friendship and loyalty Lynn. Look forward to seeing you again soon xxx
Have just signed up, despite my aversion to online get-togethers (I taught online during lockdown – enough said)!
I’m so excited!!
I’ve always wanted to come to a retreat, so think this is a fab idea. If all goes well, perhaps you’ll consider an online retreat? Barbara, I can hear your voice in my ear going, “Calm down, girl – let’s take a walk before we go for a run, shall we?!” 😂
I’m soooo looking forward to it. Maybe it’ll give me a push to join the SHAC live rather than watching it afterwards.
Thanks for all the joy I’ve had from your products & inspiration so far. See you all in October. Xx
