A Growing Day

A Growing Day

Hi there,

Thanks for popping in. An old friend of mine always used to say, “we have good days, and growing days”. Suffice it to say today has been a growing day. In fact, I’ve grown so much my head aches; I’m all grow’d out today.

When everything is peachy and plain sailing, when there are no crashing waves, it’s easy to row the boat. Yesterday it was like a millpond! I guess days like today, when the oars fall in the water, the sails rip and the mast snaps – those are the days when you get to show that you can swim. Stood in the storm and got wet – but it’s not terminal.

You know, it’s not easy running a business, it really isn’t. Especially a manufacturing business. There’s just so much to consider.

We’re just an SME – a small or medium-sized enterprise. But what am I saying, JUST ?!?

Family businesses are the backbone of this country actually. There are 4.8 million family businesses in the UK, of which over 18,000 are medium and large businesses. … In 2017, the family business sector paid £182 billion in tax, more than the annual NHS budget. Family firms employ 13.4 million people in the UK – 50% of private sector employment.

On that note, I’d best get my polling card and go a-voting!

Tomorrow will doubtless be a better day. Well it will be for me; I’m going up to London, to see A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic. Meeting friends outside the theatre at 6.30pm.

So I shall be on the train at 9am. Don’t want to be late, now do I ?!

Love & Hugs,

Barb xxx

  1. Enjoy your trip to London tomorrow to meet up with your friends & no you don’t want to be late !! I have been out for Christmas lunch today with my friends I used to work with so it was good to catch up with everyone.

  2. Oh, I’m sorry it’s been a tough day today for you. Glad you can escape from it all tomorrow though. I thought you lived nearish London, a train at 9am, you must live so far away, but I’m sure your show and catch up with friends will be worth it.

Pleased to hear you are going voting. Even though the choice this time is dire!!! Although we have our own extra option up here, but it was still the hardest decision this time. It’s no longer a democracy if folk don’t do their bit and vote. Someone needs to start a People Party, representing us normal people, what we want in and from our Government. Anyone reading this with the means and energy to try setting one up, please do…

Hope you can chill in front of your fire when you get back from voting, and you have a special time tomorrow. Love you xxx

  3. You might just get there in time on that train. Have fun enjoy the show. We need small businesses in this country of ours, you all work so hard. We are off out for lunch tomorrow then babysitting in the evening, well teenage sitting really and Fred is playing Taxi man for our grandaughter. xx

  4. Busy day today, Christmas jumpers, Christmas dinner, training all afternoon and voting tonight. All went well, although the voting was the most difficult one. Have fun at the theatre tomorrow, I love A Christmas Carol, read it every year…of course you can’t beat The Muppets with their version. XX

  5. Hi Barb – sorry to hear that the seas have been rough today. I love supporting small family businesses and when we lived in Cornwall there were so many. I am always telling people about Clarity and how wonderful it is. Plus the fact that you make the majority of your products. I think that we should all try and buy goods that are made in this country. I have found there to be more available than there used to be. Obviously not enough but let’s hope that they will increase in time.
Have a wonderful day in London. With a bit of luck you just may be able to enjoy some shopping too. Love and hugs, Gilly xxx

  6. I’ve just been to vote,
tomorrow is a new day. Have a lovely time with your friends tomorrow, best to set off early incase they cancel any trains, been a right nuisance with this oop norf x

  10. So sorry you’ve had a rough day. Have a great one tomorrow, safe in the knowledge that we’re all so proud of you, and with you every step. Love ya, sweetie xoxo

  11. Sorry you have had a bad day, but you have tomorrow to relax and enjoy.
We did our postal votes last week. I think they should have an extra option on the paper – “none of the above” – wonder how that would pan out?
Watching Paul at the moment, he seems to be having fun and I love his demos.
My back aches just looking at the low height of the demo table and as Paul is quite tall it must be very uncomfortable for him.
A Christmas Carol is favourite with the OH and he watches every version/interpretation that comes on telly. Thank goodness for Groovi to keep me sane!!!
Have a good evening all 🍒🍒🍒

  12. Hi there, Have a fantastic day tomorrow. Sounds like it will do you good to get away. I’m hoping to sleep well and waken up with less of a cold. Tough day work wise because I can’t go near the people I need to visit who have more to deal with than a rotten cold! Always feel guilty but I can’t change it and the phone and messenger are useful tools for now. Sitting here watching Paul using dies that I already have. Good therapy. Sleep well. New day tomorrow. Hx

  13. Hi Barb,
Sounds like you’ve had a rough day and I feel sorry for you. I know it can’t be easy running a business , especially at the moment, but you are doing a great job – Clarity is a superb company. I always try to support small businesses as they are really the backbone of the country. Have a fabulous time at the theatre tomorrow – I’m looking forward to seeing the new Christmas Carol on tv. I don’t blame you for going up to London early- I think it will do you good ! Retail therapy always works!! Love and hugs,Alison xx

  14. Yep, definitely not easy running a business! Not very well today so had a very rare day off work. Really didn’t feel like going out in the cold and wet to vote but ‘had a word’ with myself and finally went and did it about 4.00pm. Very glad I made the effort!

  15. Glad you made it safe to shore! Just watching t.v. about the exit poll – the whole programme is just conjecture! Pointless in my opinion. Enjoy your London trip. The Muppets version is always part of our Christmas with our friends and their children which now means grandchildren as well – how time flies! Loving your programmes!

  16. Growing day heh? So sorry to hear that as you are a very resilient woman, so it must have been a tough one. Luckily they don’t come along all the time, or like London buses in 3s!!! You’re right, running a small business is tough. We went out to see Last Christmas yesterday at the cinema – what a funny, heart warming story – not your usual Christmas rom-com, but we all loved it.
