TIme well spent with a Friend…

TIme well spent with a Friend…

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.
Friday’s blog a private peak, right?
Well today I spent the morning with a good friend.
She kept me company whilst I cleaned and polished and dusted.
In fact, I often spend hours with her in the kitchen.
She sings, I dance.
You all know her; you’ve all listened to her.
And if you loved her like I do, you probably cried when she died.
I remember meeting her when she was just a teenager at Penshurst Place near here. She was one of several acts at a little Jazz evening. Her Dad was in charge of the sound, and she kept calling to him, full of insecurity, asking, “Is it alright, Dad?”
And I remember right back then, falling in love with this powerhouse of a little girl. She was tiny!
But what a voice.
Then the world watched while she slowly died.
Nothing and nobody could help her. Alcohol and drugs took her to a place which no human could or should endure.
And so at the tender age of 27, she died.
The power of addiction is incomprehensible. Until you have been in its grip, you cannot understand.
How I wanted to seek her out and try and help her. How I wanted to go into London and find the girl, just to reach out.
When I saw her stumbling around on stages, being hounded by the paparazzi, I wept. As did thousands of others. Of course there were those rubberneckers who sneered and said it was self-inflicted.
But most agreed it was a tragic waste of a beautiful, young, talented girl.
So she’s at peace now, no longer tormented.
And I get to dance with her as she fills the house with her soul.
Love & Hugs,
Barb

  1. I couldn’t agree more. Such a tragic waste, but a lifelong legacy of enjoyment for others.
I have always done boring housework to Wham, as a couple of their tracks are great to hoover to. Poor George Michael was another tortured soul who died too young.
Congratulations to the blog candy winners and have a lovely weekend everyone and a happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there. Annette X

  2. Yup I'm a fan too, such a waste of a talented young person! Fame like that isn't all its cracked up to be is it, adds pressures in a way all of its own?

Congratulations to the lucky winners, just one thing tho' Barb…my name is missing again lol!

Seriously I'm intrigued to hear/see what the 'cool' prize is…so winners please let us know but wait a few days to be sure everyone has had their surprise as don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Have a good weekend one and all xxx

  3. Oooh Barbara I can't wait to see what the surprise is!! How lucky am I!! Congratulations to the other winners too. She did have a phenominal talent and such a tragic waste of a life. When it comes to music I have very varied tastes and I don't have a particular favourite but music does play a big part in my life abd always has. Thanks again for the surprise gift. x

  4. Isn't it always the way – such a sad waste of a young talented life. She wasn't the first and sadly she certainly won't be the last as there are always vultures that will prey on such people. What a very sad and depraved world we live in these days or is it that as I get older I become more aware of the nastiness?? Thank goodness we will always have them in our homes so their talent and brilliance lives on. Xx

    1. Hi Dawn, I’m not sure it’s that we get older we’re more aware of the nastiness – I think it’s the internet/social media stuff that makes us more aware, although I suppose that has come further with our age …. x

  5. Such a sad loss, several of my favourite musicians and performers have died at
a similar age. They seem to have it all but the pressure must be tremendous.
Congratulations to all the lucky winners.

  6. Yes, a sad loss. For some reason Marc Bolan always comes into my mind when I hear about a young star meeting their fate. I often wonder what he’d be doing now. He wasn’t my idol or anything but liked a lot of his stuff. It must be a tough existence underneath the glam we usually see.

Well done to those who were lucky in the draw ! X

  7. Tragic. We never know what is going on in a person's life. It's easy to judge people as weak, but more often than not, there is a trigger that sets a person off down that spiral.

  8. Thank you, what a lovely surprise, looking forward to seeing what the postie brings. Congratulations to the other winners too. So tragic when one dies so young, she had a wonderful talent. xx

  9. Hello Barbara

Such a tragic waste of life. My younger daughter looks very similar and also had an addiction. Luckily she managed to overcome it and is now married with two young children.

On a happier note, yay! I have won a prize! Thank you so much.

    Love
    Roz.xxx

  10. Sad waste of a talented young girl but like you say we still get to enjoy her music there just should have been a lot more. It is easy for the rest of us to sit in judgement but addictions are hard to break. On a totally different subject, thank-you so much for drawing out my name in the blog winners. How lucky am I after an absolutely fantastic week joining in the retreat. xx

  11. Hi Barb,
Yes I totally agree with you. What a talent she was and what a tragic waste of a life. I often listen to her music when on a long journey in the car. Congratulations to the very lucky winners but I'm intrigued to know what the cool prize is! Could it be one of the brand new blending pens ( I which case I'll be even more jealous of you all than I am now!) Sending love and hugs to everyone, Alison xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Been a beautiful day here today and I even managed to get my washing dried outside ! Been a housework day today though although I did trace out a Groovi birthday card this afternoon. Sending love and hugs to you all, Alison xxx

  12. I agree totally Barbara such a waste of a young life a very talented young woman I adore her music as you do
Congratulations to all the lucky winners enjoy your happy post xx

  13. Such a waste of talent, I really loved Amy's music, what a voice. The first song of Amy's I heard was Valerie think its on this CD, I remember when Back to Black came out and I bought it, Pete said I didn't think that was your sort of music, then he heard it and loved it too. Surprising how quickly you get through the housework when there's good music to dance and sing to, isn't it Barb. Congratulations to today's winners.

  14. A beautiful voice to keep you company with your chores. I remember seeing the documentary film about her on a plane once, and it was heartbreaking how no-one could help her.

  15. Hi Barbara
So sad that a young star was taken so early, she had such a great voice. I was leaping around to Coldplay ths morning while I was doing the housework, makes the time pass quickly doesn't it. Congratulations to all the lucky winners, I wonder what's on it's way to you.
    Love Diane xxx

  16. A great great talent sadly missed. Having been down a similar road in my youth I know how hard it is to fight addiction. Such a tragedy that she wasn’t quite strong enough to beat it. X

  17. So very very sad, it must be bittersweet for family to still be able to listen to her unique voice as we all do. Tragic and sadly there seems to be no end to this awful drug menace. On another note, excited at being a random winner, never won anything before, thank you Barbara, sorry didn't respond yesterday but wi fit down again! Congrats to the other lucky nine xx
