Home Sweet Home….a Gelpress step by step

Home Sweet Home….a Gelpress step by step

Hi there!
Thanks for popping in.
Had a hankering to get my Gel Plate out and play with some paint.
The little Petites are great,
but sometimes you just need a bigger one!
So out with the 6″ x 6″
Wasn’t sure where to begin,
but I do like our Wee Houses Stamps.
and our Wee Shops
So let’s use them! Especially because they come with masks,
and we need masks for this trick!
Stamp out a row of houses and shops onto
Cover them up with the masks, add a huge moon mask
and set to one side.

Next mount the Gelplate on the matching 7″x7″ Megamount.
Mask off with low-tack masking tape and brayer night sky into position using an acrylic paint.

Dapple with screwed up paper.

Move the tape down and go over the same area with white paint.
The blue and white will blend if the blue is still wet.

Dapple the area again.

Remove the tape.
At this point, do you actually think I have the foggiest idea
what to do next???

Ah well, in for a penny….
Coat the whole plate with black acrylic paint.

…and dapple again, with screwed up paper.

Mmmm.
What next?
Now we need a layer to pull the print.
Let’s add another layer with a blend of blue and red!

While it’s still wet, flip it upside down
and place it down on your masked houses and shops.

Ooooh! I say!
This is very very atmospheric!
Love the light beneath the last house in the street.
That was always our house when we were kids.
At the end of a terrace.

You can use the masks again.
Just pop them on a piece of copy paper to dry off.

So we could leave it white,
or add some interest with ink.
Why not….
Lime Kiss Artistry ink for the Highlights.

Stamp Home above our house…

Add some red lowlights with Blaze Artistry ink.

I think a little light in the windows might add to it  …

Mounted on black.

Easy peasy.
Especially when you get to the end and look back!
We lived at No. 58, right at the far end of the cul-de-sac too…

Time to stop for the day, I think.
Enjoyed that.
Sometimes it’s really refreshing to NOT know
where you’re headed.
Love & hugs,
Barb
xxxx

  1. Oh Barbara you have so made me want to get my gel press out! But I will resist temptation until I've finished what I'm doing today!
Your picture is fabulous as always!
Love and hugs to you. Xxxx

  2. This is fabulous Barbara and love all the layers which I find difficult to visualise what they will look like, but the finished piece with the added colour on the houses and the moon is just perfect. I must get my gelli plate out as I haven't used it for a long time. Hope the rest of your day is good. x

    1. Hi Lovely blog friends! Hope that you are as ok as you can be! I think that I am improving again now – hit a bit of a brick wall with Merv and Ernie, but trying my best to send them on their way! Love and hugs, Gilly xxx

  3. I really enjoyed reading through this one. It is so good for us to just see where our minds lead us, without having complete plan laid out. We all need to allow our imagination to expand, and this is a great way to do that. This is one important reason why I love Clarity classes. We are given skills and ideas, but no-one ever gets bothered if our imagination takes off, and we are actually encouraged to make our work our own. My only problem is that I never have enough days in the week to keep up with what I have in my mind to try. I hope your experimenting was relaxing to you. xxx Maggie

    1. That's one of the reasons I enjoy Maria's class you get to learn new techniques and try products new to you but she often encourages us to go "off piste" xx

  4. I was juzt looking at the wee houses last night and was this king about what to do. I think you havd now inspired my to crate something with a Painty background.
I have had to look after an ill chi!d today so I have been working on my groovi white work so it has been relaxing. Hope everyone has a good day.

  5. Hi Barbara, lovely artwork, and yes very atmospheric, reminds me of halloween for some reason. Thank you for playing on our behalf and for sharing it with us. Have you been in my head again?!!! I've been pondering baby gelli, paint, and snowflakes for my christmas cards this year. Was pondering even more how to make different shades of blue from a royal blue, thought I would have to mix first and then put that on the mat for the brayer. But now I have 2 much better, easier and less cleaning up (hopefully!) options for mixing colours, thank you. Aye, still only pondering christmas cards, and it will now need to wait until at least the end of the week, if not longer! Having so few people in my life at present does sometimes have it's positives!!! What I'm going to do if my first attempt ever of gelli prints is a mess… Sure don't like to make life easy for myself eh!!!!

Hope you are having a good day
    Love Brenda xx

    1. Hello Brenda just go with the flow with the gelli plate and see what you get, every one is a suprise. If you've got a snowflake die, cut some out and put them on the painty gelli and give them a squish, you will have snowflake shapes in your background you could stamp into. That would look quite good too. Have fun playing. Sending hugs to you and Daisy xxx

    2. I love the darkness lifted by the welcoming light from the houses. I will try to be bolder with my colours. Do give the Gelli plate a go Brenda. Every print is a lovely surprise. X

  6. Great project thanks for sharing. Can I ask if it's OK to use emulsion paint on my geli plate? Local Asda selling off match pots for 10p today & it would have been rude not to buy some!

    1. Hello dear blog friends sending lots of crafting hugs I had to go out to get me a new blue badge as my other one runs out mid December brr it was cold out now home lovely and cosy hopefully I can do a little craft tomorrow hugs and cuddles xxx

  7. Hi Barbara
This is lovely, if you had tried to put in a funny bit under the last house you wouldn't have managed it but it looks like the light streaming from the house, amazing. These stamps are great aren't they, so useful for many occasions. Hope today has been a good day.
    Love Diane xxx

  8. Very striking. I tried a similar idea for last month's challenge using the small round plate that I got a while ago. I put a house and a moon mask on the plate. inked it with distress inks took the masks off to stamp then stamped the house in place after. I got some fresco paints at Leyburn so will have a go at your technique when I get time. Christmas preparations and family commitments have taken over recently xx

  9. I am always amazed by the results of paint and gelli plate. I can never understand how all the layers of paint turn out so good. This looks like the huge moon we couldn't see for the clouds last night.

  10. Ok! That means wee houses go on wish list – along with mini gelli plates and the 6" one with mount. Now I need to buy a special notebook for my wish lust! OOPS should have read list! Tiny suggestion/request: any chance of having a 'wish list' facility added to the website? Would be really useful. Needless to say, I love today's artwork. Especially the go for it aporoach and the creative lighting touches. Thanks.

  11. Hi Barb, I just wish, my starting, and not knowing where I am heading turned out as well as yours. Love the night sky colours. Need to get more time to play, especially with everything I have, never mind what is on my wish list. Have a great day everyone. Bx

  12. Love the super moon! I wish I was brave enough to try something without knowing where I was going. My craft projects always seem to be planned with military precision. Maybe my New Year's resolution could be to try stuff out more.
