Behind the Scenes: Launching Clarity’s Brush and Pen Pots
Well, that was fun!
If you joined us on Clarity Social TV on Friday, you’ll have seen something a little different from us — our brand new brush pots and pen pots. And my word, what a response! A complete sell-out… just like that. Thank you.
Clarity Merch!! Who’d have thunk it…

But what I really want to share with you today isn’t just what we launched — it’s how it came to life.
Because, as always here at Clarity, it started with a kernel of an idea. A simple thought:
Wouldn’t it be lovely to have something beautiful — and practical — to keep our new Stamp Pen Pro tools in?
From there, it gathers momentum.
Dave is usually the next port of call. He’s the one who takes that idea and asks, “Right… how do we actually make this work?” Sublimation machinery. We needed the machinery, the ink, the transfer kits, the presses for the different size pots and mugs – the whole kit n caboodle. Week later – we’re in business.
Next question. Where are we going to actually do the job? We need a light, spacious room with plenty of counter space and shelves. Dave and I share a front office at Clarity. Said office was ideal, so we had a clear out, “vacated”, and voila! Our new Clarity Sublimation Station! Love that!!
Next? Pot blanks. There is no way on Gods earth I was going to be able to churn out ceramic pots on my pottery wheel at home, so we needed to buy in the blanks.
Over to Dave again. He sourced the pots from two UK based suppliers, bought some samples, so we could make sure they were what we (the royal we) wanted). Checked that we all loved the quality, that they were exactly the right height and shape, then placed orders. Always best to have more than one source nowadays.
Then came the creative side.
We tried various designs and fonts, used up a fair few blanks testing and figuring things out. It’s what you do. We call all of this phase R&D. Research & Development. This took a while. It’s magic at Clarity. We just know when we hit the sweet spot – and we weren’t quite there. It has to be just right, and until it is, we just keep going.
Then Lisa suggested we use an abstract alcohol ink artwork of mine as a backdrop, which always sits in the studio at the back.

I suggested we went with the original blockprint lettering…

Jazz lept into action on her Mac – and bingo. Unanimous clapping and approval. We’d nailed it. Easy on the eye: tick.
Next thing: useful. We developed two sizes:
A larger brush pot, designed especially with our stencil brushes in mind — finally, a proper home for them.

And a smaller pen pot, perfect for all your pens and tools, but really born out of the need to house our brand new Stamp Pen Pros. In fact, we made the pen pots in that gorgeous teal, to match them. (You know how much I love it when things tie together like that!)

Next up: the making. Production Process, Packaging, Price, Pitch, Presentation. It’s a can of P’s for sure, if you’ll pardon the pun.
Yes. A proper Clarity collaboration. The best bit? When we nail it. When we KNOW we have hit the spot. The next best bit? When you confirm that – and invest in what we have created.
And here’s the thing…
It’s that very process — that spark of an idea, and the journey of bringing it to life — that still gets me out of bed early in the morning. After more than 30 years, you might think the novelty would wear off. But it doesn’t.
If anything, it’s the opposite. I find it energising. Invigorating. Exciting. There’s something about the challenge of it all — the puzzle, the problem-solving, the quiet question of “will this work?” — and then, beyond that, “will people love it?”. Dave’s the same.
It’s a bit like a game, really.
A rather wonderful, creative game where the goal is to make something that brings a little bit of joy into someone else’s day. And when it does… when it connects… well, that’s the magic.
And judging by how quickly these pots flew out yesterday, after one single airing on our Clarity TV, I think to myself, “By Jingo chaps! We may just have cracked it! Not literally, you understand! We may just have hit that sweet spot again!”
If you missed out, don’t worry — we’re on it like a car bonnet! You know us… we honour the order.
Paul and I will be back on your screens today from 2–4pm, where we’ll be showing them off again, along with a brand new collection of stamps — born in the SHAC. I have a feeling you’re going to love those just as much…
So if you fancy a little Clarity on your desk — something practical, purposeful, and made with care right here in Kent – we’ve got just the Clarity thing!

I watched to catch up yesterday morning and I love them. Will have to wait though as won’t be able to receive parcels at the moment so will be a bit late to the party. Love how the Clarity team work together and boom! There it is .
Brilliant to hear about the processes that go on behind the scenes at Clarity.
The pots look lovely – I am so looking forward to receiving mine 😄
I am currently reorganising my craft space (to accommodate all my Clarity goodies) so these will fit in wonderfully.
Thank you Barbara and the Clarity team xxx
Oh wow! I missed this! I wondered why someone’s comment said “sold out”! Shall now have to look at the sight and see what’s going on! More stamps sound interesting too! Have a lovely Sunday . Shall watch on catch up!x
What a great read this morning Barb. I loved reading about the process and hearing how well you all work together – the dream team 🫶
I managed to place an order and will look forward to receiving one of each in due course. Hoping to catch you this afternoon before going to the cinema with my daughters to see devil wears prada 2. Going to have a play this morning to see if I can finish the altered book page I started yesterday at a local craft day. I completed the first double-page spread whilst there but need to finish the other one – it got a little warm in the afternoon and my creativity waned! I also want to look at how I go about covering the book too – happy days 🫶
Love these new storage pots. What a good idea. I’m not surprised they’re flying off the shelves!
I’ve also just spotted the new flower stamps launching this afternoon. Wow! I can see so much potential play with these. Another fantastic idea from Clarity. You guys are really on fire!
Looking forward to the show this afternoon.
Hi Barbara, great read this morning whilst eating my breakfast & getting ready to take mom to church. Its nice how an idea evolves to become a product on the website & that the whole team get involved. The pots were certainly popular so glad that the sales proved you had got it right again.
Looking forward to this afternoon show to see what you do with the new stamps & Groovi plates.
Remember though it is a Bank Holiday tomorrow – a day off from work for all of you !! Enjoy, they don’t seem to have the same ring when you are retired !!
When you read the blog you can hear joy and enthusiasm in the writing. Congratulations to all.
Love reading the blog. These pots are gorgeous and not just for clarity things I think they would just as lovely with flowers in them. Have booked my time out for this afternoon so will join you later. I am though having real trouble joining in the live chat on fb. No idea why it was all fine and now it isn’t and I can’t work out what they’ve done to stop me being able to join in on my laptop. Oh well xxx
Clarity has done it again !!! The pots are beautiful and I have ordered one of each, but sure as God made little apples, I will be ordering more for the craft room. They came just in time, as I was looking to buy another plant pot so I could separate the oxide and ink brushes. My art desk could do with a tidy too”…..mmmmm!!!
It was well worth waiting for this blog, very interesting reading. Learning how things happen behind the scenes is always a treat.
Wonderful new product of the month, love it.
Off to get the ironing done now before settling down to watch this afternoon.
Have a great day everyone.
I saw those gorgeous pots last week when I placed an order, BUT….I saw my beautiful Keith Murray paintbrush pot on the shelf and could not bear to make it redundant (yet). When I think of a reason, I WILL be getting one of your pots (I’m thinking kitchen or hall).
Break legs on your show.
Love
Maggie (York UK)
Morning Barbara,
Team Clarity knocks it out of the park again. BOOM!!! These are fantastic, beautiful and purposeful. And your enthusiasm oozes from your blog right back at us and is SO infectious. Thank you for always caring to strive, achieve and stretch that little bit further. Sadly, how many times these days do we encounter somewhere that obviously thinks “that’ll do”.
Never with Clarity, you are all amazing people xXx
